The list of water sports to do in Mirissa is endless. You can take a coastal cruise and anchor at bays for swimming, snorkeling or simply sightseeing. You can hire a boat that accommodates up to ten people or a private boat for your journey.
Popular activities in Mirissa
One of the most popular activities in Mirissa is dolphin and whale watching. You see large pods of dolphins and during the migratory season, blue whales are a frequent visitor here. Whale watching trips cost anything from 4000 LKR upwards depending on the boat you go with. It’s recommended you head out by 6 am for the best chance of seeing Blue Whales or many other species that frequent the waters of the coast.
Mirissa is close to a number of the best surfing spots in Sri Lanka. It’s growing in popularity so be cautious of the time you head out if you want to catch some serious waves without competing with too many tourists. An alternative to surfing, Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding are becoming extremely popular in the area, with operators taking people out from Secret Beach to some fantastic snorkeling locations.

You can hop on a fishing boat and enjoy some deep-sea fishing while you are there. These are generally four-hour trips, 8 miles off the coast of Mirissa. Plenty of tuna, sailfish and other large game fish can be found here. There are various boats that can be hired for fishing with or without assistance.
